The Gucci brand was founded by the Italian Guccio Gucci in Florence in 1921.
Guccio worked as a maitre d ‘at the famous Savoy hotel , located in London, at the turn of the 19th century. In 1921, he ended up returning to Florence and opened his first store, using all the savings he had managed to save while working in London.
He started selling travel accessories ( high-quality bags and suitcases) , always made of high quality leather from the Tuscan region, made by the best artisans in the city, including members of his own family. His modest nishat shop was a reflection of his own style: elegant and impeccable, and it was not long before he caught the attention of the upper bourgeoisie and Florentine nobility.

With great success, Gucci crossed the borders of the city and established itself as one of the best known and preferred brands of the Italian elite. As soon as his sales grew, Guccio could open a small workshop to start making his own products. A few years later, in 1937, the stretcher opened a larger factory in Lungarno Guicciardini.
In the following years, the success of the Italian brand was resounding around the world and its bags, travel goods, accessories and shoes were items of desire for thousands of people. The first clothing collection, however, was only launched in 1961, when the fabrics printed with the interwoven classic GG pattern and with floral print (which was created especially for Grace Kelly) were introduced.
The first ready-to-wear collection was launched in the 1980s with great pomp at the most important fashion shows. The company was saved from deterioration when Domenico Del Sole elected Tom Ford as the brand’s creative director. The American designer then created collections and advertising campaigns full of sensuality that were well accepted by the press and the public.
With the entry of Alessandro Michele in the position of creative director of Gucci in 2015, the brand gained a younger look and its clothing lines gained great prominence with innovative prints that became characteristics, such as the tiger, the bee and the iconic phrase “Blind for Love” (“Blind for Love” in free translation), in addition to influences from the past decades such as geometric prints, metallic surfaces and colors of vintage aesthetics. Alessandro once and for all conquered the millennial generation, making Gucci one of the most popular brands of the moment.

Before opening her first store, Gabrielle worked as a clerk at a fabric store (where she learned the profession of seamstress and handling the needle perfectly) and at the Café Beuglant de la Rotonde.
With a great ambition to grow in life, Chanel started to get involved with rich men who could help her. Her involvement with cavalry officer Etienne Balsan took her to Paris and inserted her into the high society of the French capital. With the help of the coveted English playboy Arthur Capel, he managed to open his first store in 1910.
The road to success was not an easy one.
Chanel had to face the sexist society of the 20th century, and a mentality where women did not have much space in society. Early in his fashion career, he sold elegant women’s hats and accessories. The store was located in the Balsan region, a meeting point for French bourgeois and politicians, which gave Gabrielle a great advantage and opportunity to sell her sophisticated hats.
With a simple style, without adornment and flowers, their hats won over the Parisian ladies who frequented the city’s jockey club. Chanel liked to be bold in her outfits, mixing female and male pieces, which bothered the men in society (and a fact that encouraged her to dedicate herself to sewing). Arthur saw a future business woman in Coco, and helped her buy a property at the prestigious address 21 Rue Cambon.
Its simple cut pieces enchanted women, and in 1913 (before World War I) it opened two boutiques simultaneously in Deauville and Paris. At this time, the stylist started making women’s sportswear, for example, blouses with turtlenecks, which were inspired by sailors and were made of knitwear and knitting.
Two years later, in 1915, he opened his first Haute Couture studio, and, in 1918, he settled permanently at 31 Rue Cambon, where the store is still today. Coco revolutionized the 20th century fashion world by freeing women from tight bands and bodices in ruffled skirts, making them feel powerful and free wearing simpler, more practical clothes.
Over the decades, the French designer has been responsible for numerous pieces that are currently iconic, such as jersey pieces, cardigans, tweed suits, pleated skirts, dresses in straight cuts in sleeveless cuts, and, of course, the famous little black dress . With a chic and minimalist style, Chanel was a pioneer and visionary in several aspects of women’s fashion and her creations were innovative and have become classic pieces nowadays.
The Burberry was founded in 1856 by Thomas Burberry in Basingstoke, England.
At the age of 21, Thomas opened a small store specializing in clothing for sports, such as hunting and fishing. An apprentice weaver, he was very concerned with the quality of his products and, with less than 20 years of history, he became very popular with the English. His store became a large emporium, where he had a sophisticated and wealthy clientele.
Its great innovation was in the creation of gabardine , a waterproof, breathable and extremely resistant fabric for rainy days. The fabric became the raw material for umbrellas and clothing to make life easier for explorers and sportsmen, but it soon fell in the taste of all Burberry customers.

In 1891, under the name of Thomas Burberry & Sons , the brand opened its new store in the West End region of London. In the year 1895, Thomas was “summoned” by the British army to develop a coat for the officers, a piece that would predecessor the Trench Coat . It was the appearance of the famous raincoat, adapted to the military style.
In 1914, the company was commissioned by the war office to adapt the officers’ old coat for combat.
Therefore, they added epaulettes to display the officers’ patents, the flap over the chest offered greater security, while the rain protector on the upper back ensured that the water did not come into contact with the body, and there the trench coat version was born . we know today, an extremely warm and resistant coat, which during World War I was worn by half a million British soldiers, a fact that helped to increase its popularity.
Another factor that made Burberry gain more notoriety was the fact that King George V became a big fan of the brand, and was seen wearing coats on different occasions. Currently the brand is configured as one of the most traditional and well-known in the United Kingdom, with its pieces easily recognized all over the world.
The iconic plaid fabric (in beige, black, red and white) was introduced in 1924 and was soon patented, thus becoming the Burberry trademark and started to be used at first in the linings of the brand’s coats and, subsequently, in various products, from garments to bags and accessories.
After some years in stagnation (but still with a lot of tradition and success), Roberto Menichetti (the then creative director of the British brand) developed the Burberry Prorsum clothing line in 1998, where he created pieces with a higher price, where he mixed prints and colors , overlaid pieces and shuffled the classic with the new one.
Currently under the creative direction of Riccardo Tisci, the iconic English brand seeks a more modern and cool approach, with pieces of clothing that combine street fashion with the sophistication, elegance and tradition of Burberry.
4. Dolce & Gabbana
The Dolce & Gabbana was founded by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in 1985 in Italy.
Domenico and Stefano met in the early 1980s when they worked as assistants to stylist Giorgio Correggiari in Milan. The duo had a vision of how they would like to dress women, so in 1982 they opened a small studio in Milan where they worked as freelancers for major city brands.
In 1985 they launched their first collection called “Donna-Donna” during Milan Fashion Week within the category New Talents. As they had no money to hire models to show, they were helped by friends to show the collection. The success came immediately and the brand became the darling of the press and gained space within the Italian fashion scene with its feminine creations, sexy and with great influence from southern Italy.
In 1987 the brand opened its first showroom and won over famous admirers, such as Madonna and Isabella Rossellini, names that helped the brand gain international prominence overnight. At the end of that decade, D&G started opening its first stores in Tokyo, Milan and Hong Kong.
In the early 1990s, the duo launched their first men’s clothing collection and dared in the years to come to dress models like Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell with clothing from this collection. The Italian brand, which started as a women’s clothing business only, has expanded its product line, now encompassing accessories, shoes and bags.
In the 2000s, Dolce & Gabbana reintegrated the production and distribution of lingerie, swimwear and fabric accessories (scarves and ties), which were previously licensed. Another division within the brand was also inaugurated, this time that of leather and footwear. Alongside this opening, a line of watches was launched on the market, and Dolce became the first to place Swarovski crystals in its pieces.
Currently, the Italian brand is known for its colorful, cheerful, fun and innovative prints , always following its trademark of contemplating the traditions of southern Italy and having clothes with an extravagant and luxurious style.
The Italian brand Valentino was founded by Valentino Garavani in 1960.
Born in Voghera, a small town north of Milan, the Italian had a love for architecture, sculpture and paintings and proved to be a competent draftsman, especially in costumes for the cinema, which was his great passion.
Driven by this love, he enrolled in a fashion design course at the Santa Maria Institute, located in Milan. However, at the age of 18, he moved to Paris with the aim of studying at the Haute Couture Trade Union Chamber. After 2 years in the city, the Italian took first place in a competition in 1952, which guaranteed him a job in Jean Dessès’ studio , where he stayed for 5 years.
In 1957, Valentino followed Guy Laroche, who was his colleague at Maison Dessès, in the opening of his studio to assist him as a stylist and also to work in the commercial area of the brand. However, the Italian also decided to launch himself into the individual industry, so he returned to Italy and opened his own studio in 1960.
The brand’s first collection (which contained 120 models) was presented a year later, in 1961, in his studio, at the renowned address of Via Condotti in Rome and had financial support from Valentino’s father. However, the first collection was officially presented a year later, in 1962, with a parade at the Palazzo Pitti in Florence, which at the time was the capital of Italian fashion. His creations were an immediate success and Valentino , still a young up-and-coming designer, was quickly considered a master of Italian haute couture.
His great differential between him and other professionals even at the beginning of his career was that, while many are still in search of their own style and follow different paths until they interlock, with only 20 years old Valentino already had a mature talent, creating well balanced pieces and with exact proportions.
In the early 1960s, when he was just beginning his career in Haute Couture, the Italian brand launched its first Prêt-à-Porter collection. Ten years later, in the 1970s, the first women’s and men’s Ready-To-Wear collections were launched.
In the following years, the brand expanded its product range, introducing pieces in jeans, bracelets, necklaces, T-shirts, as well as a decoration line (which included fabrics, prints, wallpapers and even furniture). After the sale of the brand in 2002 to the Marzotto Group, the brand launches its second line, Red Valentino , which aimed to reach a younger audience.
After that, the brand was divided into four business fronts: Valentino itself (which covers the most prestigious divisions, such as haute couture, ready-to-wear, accessories, perfumes, glasses, etc.), Valentino Garavani (footwear , bags, luggage and leather goods), Valentino Roma (more casual ready-to-wear collection) and Red Valentino .
Currently, the Italian brand is known for its sophisticated, elegant and luxurious style, which aims to transmit excellence and quality in its pieces. One of the most striking features of her pieces are “Vermelho Valentino”, beautiful pieces with a perfect fit and feminine style, in addition to animal prints in black and white, embroidery, pleats and horizontal and vertical pleats that generate unusual effects and the double blanket .
